FDA Approves Lifesaving Device for Premature Babies The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a medical device poised to save thousands of premature babies born with a life-threatening congenital condition called patent ductus arteriosus. The device, called the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder, allows doctors to correct the condition through a minimally invasive procedure.

Volunteers Cleanup National Parks During Shutdown Volunteers across the nation are taking action to keep national parks and monuments clean during the government shutdown. At Yellowstone National Park, local businesses are contributing funds to keep the park functioning during the high season.

This Once Homeless Man is Bringing Internet Access to Households in the Bronx Marlin Jenkins was struck by the digital divide impacting residents in the Bronx, where 40% of households are without internet access. To alleviate this shortage, Mr. Jenkins decided to establish a start-up called Neture that provides free online resources to low-income residents.

Rhode Island Nonprofit Rescues Elderly Dogs After being moved by the state of elderly dogs in pet shelters, Kristen Peralta decided to start Vintage Pet Rescue, a nonprofit in Rhode Island that provides care for these older pups. Senior dogs have significantly lower adoption rates compared to younger dogs.
